Here's The First Trailer for Netflix's Hill House Successor

8/31/2020

Comments

Last year it was announced that the widely popular "The Haunting of Hill House" on Netflix would have a follow up, though it would not be a direct sequel but an entirely different story. American Horror Story has proven such an anthology approach works just fine with audiences, so Mike Flanagan, Hill House's creator now bring us The Haunting of Bly Manor.
The next chapter of The Haunting anthology series from The Haunting of Hill House creator Mike Flanagan and producer Trevor Macy, The Haunting of Bly Manor is set in 1980s England. After an au pair’s tragic death, Henry Wingrave (Henry Thomas) hires a young American nanny (Victoria Pedretti) to care for his orphaned niece and nephew (Amelie Bea Smith, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) who reside at Bly Manor.
They are joined there by the estate’s chef Owen (Rahul Kohli), groundskeeper Jamie (Amelia Eve), and housekeeper, Mrs. Grose (T’Nia Miller). But all is not as it seems at the manor, and centuries of dark secrets of love and loss are waiting to be unearthed in this gothic romance. At Bly Manor, dead doesn’t mean gone. - Deadline
The Haunting of Bly Manor premiers October 9th, 2020.

Netflix's Resident Evil Series Confirmed

8/27/2020

Comments

Netflix confirms there is an official Resident Evil series in the works. The first season will consist of eight 1-hour episodes. The minimal plot details provided so far allude to the possible origin story of Albert Wesker's involvement in Racoon City.
“When the Wesker kids move to New Raccoon City, the secrets they uncover might just be the end of everything. Resident Evil, a new live action series based on Capcom’s legendary survival horror franchise, is coming to Netflix.”
Are these "kids" Wesker's children? We'll have to see. Albert Wesker was introduced in the original Resident Evil video game in 1996 as the head of STARS - a national police force. The character was also portrayed in a number of the popular movies starring Milla Jovovich.

If you're questioning the creative effort of this show, the first episode was written by Andew Dabb who is a primary writer and producer of the long-running show Supernatural. Bronwen Hughes will be directing, who previously directed episodes of The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

There is no known air date for the show at this time.

Blumhouse Productions, one of the most popular horror genre production companies of the last decade, will be producing an inter-connecting set of eight films on Amazon's Prime Video. Half of these features wont arrive until next year. The first four, however, will debut in October on two different dates. October 6th will bring the "The Lie" and "Black Box" and the following week on October 13th, "Evil Eye" and "Nocturne" will be available.
“We are excited to launch ‘Welcome to the Blumhouse’ with this exhilarating and provocative slate of original films for the first time ever on Prime Video. This collection from diverse and emerging filmmakers was a thrill to put together with our wonderful partners at Blumhouse Television,” said Julie Rapaport, co-head of movies for Amazon Studios. “These chilling stories have something for everyone — ready to fright and delight genre fans and newcomers alike — and we are excited to share them with our global Prime Video customers.”

Lovecraft Country Premiers This Sunday!

If you have HBO, or if you've been looking for a reason to try out HBO Max, mark your calendars for this Sunday, August 16th. The 10-episode run of Lovecraft Country premiers and I cannot wait. Based on the book by Matt Ruff, the story follows army veteran Atticus Turner on his journey to find his father who has gone missing. Being held captive by a group of occultists in New England, Turner's father is found, however, much more sinister plans are in order. Taking place in the mid 1950s, the story straddles the line between out-worldly horror and the all-too-real state of the period's racial divide in America.
Having read the book, I'm highly interested to see how the plot is enhanced and stretched to produce a 10-episode mini-series. HBO already gave  us a relatively successful production of Stephen King's "The Outsider," which was not without it's own changes and additions for the small screen.
