Last year it was announced that the widely popular "The Haunting of Hill House" on Netflix would have a follow up, though it would not be a direct sequel but an entirely different story. American Horror Story has proven such an anthology approach works just fine with audiences, so Mike Flanagan, Hill House's creator now bring us The Haunting of Bly Manor. The next chapter of The Haunting anthology series from The Haunting of Hill House creator Mike Flanagan and producer Trevor Macy, The Haunting of Bly Manor is set in 1980s England. After an au pair’s tragic death, Henry Wingrave (Henry Thomas) hires a young American nanny (Victoria Pedretti) to care for his orphaned niece and nephew (Amelie Bea Smith, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) who reside at Bly Manor. The Haunting of Bly Manor premiers October 9th, 2020.

The U.S.S. Nightmare located in Newport, KY has announced they will not be operating this year due to Covid-19 concerns. "Due to the continuing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to cancel the 2020 USS Nightmare season. This was a difficult decision to make and one that was not taken lightly. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for a 2021 season that is promised to be bigger and better than ever!" The U.S.S. Nightmare joins Twisted Trails and King's Island Halloween Haunt in choosing to not operate this season.
Netflix confirms there is an official Resident Evil series in the works. The first season will consist of eight 1-hour episodes. The minimal plot details provided so far allude to the possible origin story of Albert Wesker's involvement in Racoon City. “When the Wesker kids move to New Raccoon City, the secrets they uncover might just be the end of everything. Resident Evil, a new live action series based on Capcom’s legendary survival horror franchise, is coming to Netflix.” Are these "kids" Wesker's children? We'll have to see. Albert Wesker was introduced in the original Resident Evil video game in 1996 as the head of STARS - a national police force. The character was also portrayed in a number of the popular movies starring Milla Jovovich.
If you're questioning the creative effort of this show, the first episode was written by Andew Dabb who is a primary writer and producer of the long-running show Supernatural. Bronwen Hughes will be directing, who previously directed episodes of The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. There is no known air date for the show at this time. Trivial Pursuit - Horror Ultimate Edition has recently been released. The horror-fied iconic game comes loaded with 1,800 questions among the categories Paranormal, Monster, Gore/Disturbing, Psychological, Comedy and of course, Slasher. This is a must-have for friends and family who live and breathe horror...and not so good for those of you who live with people who hate horror movies. How do you stand it?

If you have HBO, or if you've been looking for a reason to try out HBO Max, mark your calendars for this Sunday, August 16th. The 10-episode run of Lovecraft Country premiers and I cannot wait. Based on the book by Matt Ruff, the story follows army veteran Atticus Turner on his journey to find his father who has gone missing. Being held captive by a group of occultists in New England, Turner's father is found, however, much more sinister plans are in order. Taking place in the mid 1950s, the story straddles the line between out-worldly horror and the all-too-real state of the period's racial divide in America. Having read the book, I'm highly interested to see how the plot is enhanced and stretched to produce a 10-episode mini-series. HBO already gave us a relatively successful production of Stephen King's "The Outsider," which was not without it's own changes and additions for the small screen. Let us know what you thought in the comments after you watch! |
