Scare Factor
Paul - Twisted Trails is one of the scarier outdoor haunts we do. There are 3 different attractions in one facility, and all 3 have a much different feel. Teresa - Something about a haunted trail is just inherently scary. It's dark, you can't always see very well, and there are things hiding that jump out at you. This one has you walking through buildings as you traverse the trail, and some of those are even more unpredictable. It isn't a touch haunt, but some of the actors and scenes are sublimely creepy and there are a fair number of jump scares, as well. Emily - Nature in the darkness is naturally terrifying. Twisted Trails has the best landscape for a fear filled evening! Actors Paul - The actors at Twisted Trails do well in their roles, and there are a couple who are REALLY good at what they do! I especially enjoyed the character dancing in the light with the bubbles floating around. It looked like something out of a Tim Burton movie! Teresa - The actors did great with their roles. Some were quiet, but followed you, some were talkative and interactive. Some were just plain creepy. The dancing doll was probably the creepiest character and scene for me this year. Well-lit, you can see it from a distance, and it's just really really unnerving. Emily - Actors were a mix of jumps and storytellers. The actors who did interact with us were pretty great. I enjoyed their part. I think we went on a big call off night, so there were some dead spots, but the haunt is cool regardless. There was a really neat doll looking thing dancing in front of the clown house that was really well done. So creepy Immersion Paul - The biggest challenge I think trail haunts have is keeping the immersion the whole way through. Twisted Trails does a very good job, and it gets better and better every year. Teresa - Some of the scenes are very immersive and so well-done. The witch section, the "simple" scenes with pumpkins and hay and scarecrows are creepy and absolutely delightful. The pie lady was fun. And the doll cottage has the most fantastic approach. Just this giant doll, slowly dancing in the moonlight as you get closer and closer. Emily - The surrounding trees and the overall feeling through the trail gives immersion. I love fog tunnels, just wish there were more actors. Entertainment Paul - This is a really entertaining haunt that makes noticeable improvements every year. There are plenty of activities outside of the three haunt areas, and you're sure to have a fun time! Teresa - I love haunted trails. This one has some fun scenes, some creepy sound effects and props, lots of jump scares, and some fun fog effects. There are also some shops and portolets, plus they actually have heaters for the lines, which is nice on a cold night, for sure! Emily - It's a fun haunt and I always enjoy when I get to attend. |
What Makes This Haunt Special
Paul - The laser fog area in Much Manor. This is easily the biggest laser fog that I've experienced, and when the actors in there are amped up, it's a heck of a scene.
Teresa - It has some really creepy scenes that stick with you. It's a bit like you're walking through a haunted fairy tale. Those sections are so much fun. Emily - The fog tunnels are pretty unique. Other haunts do them here and there, but I like multiples with the twists and turns. |
What Can Be Worked On
Paul - This place is pretty huge, and there's a whole lot of area to fill up with haunt. They're doing a really good job of packing more into it every year, but there's still a decent amount of empty space to work with.
Teresa - I'd love to see some of the more generic buildings and scenes grow into memorable ones. They do such a great job with some of them. I feel like a little more creativity/time/money would go a long way. It was a little light on actors the night we went, and I'm sure some of them would have carried some of the scenes quite well. But if getting actors to show up reliably is a problem (as it is for many), the scenes could carry themselves if done well. Also, the signage could have been a bit more clear at the ticketing area. We had to wait through a long, very slow line twice, because there was nothing saying we had to sign a waiver in this other line before getting our tickets. Just something that could have been easily avoided. Emily - Entry was a little confusing. Need more signs saying you'll be kicked out of the line you waited if you don't sign a waiver beforehand and then you have to wait in the line all over again. There were zero signs, which got several groups throughout our time trying to enter. |
In Summary
Paul - This is a really fun trail haunt, and continues to get better year after year. The only hiccup we really had this year was the waiver system (use the computers to fill out your waivers BEFORE getting into the ticket line), but the haunt itself was really entertaining.
Teresa - Twisted Trails is definitely a fun way to spend a haunted evening during the spooky season. There's just something so exciting about being in the woods at night. And some of these scenes are simple, but so effectively creepy! Plus...heaters and fires to warm up by!
Emily - Twisted trails is a good time, even on a light actor night. Even just walking through the trails at night is enjoyable and creepy!
