Donna - Sandyland Acres is open for its 17th year of one of the best haunted hayrides in the tri-state area. This fun family oriented hayride was developed from the creative imagination of Gene Webb who is an avid horror movie buff and loves all things Halloween. Every year he works from March to October changing rearranging and adding different scenarios to the 20 minute long ride through a country cornfield.
On the night that we were there it was probably a two hour wait in line as the popularity of the Haunt spreads every year. Some of your favorites are back this year such as the headless horseman and the fire spewing semi trucks that try to ram the back of the wagon. Gene has also added some new totally different scenes that are definitely darker and more terrifying than in the past. The different actors do board the wagon and intimidate you waving different weapons but will not touch you or harm you. They also come at you from the outside of the wagon so you don’t feel safe from any angle. We noticed extra animatronics this year and many more actors along the way to ramp up the suspense and feeling of danger every time the wagon comes to a stop. The hillbillies were back but they were in a place you would not expect them to be. 😉
The remoteness and the darkness of the cornfield give you a totally isolated feeling and the unexpected attack from every angle by different actors well placed within the corn keep you nervous and unsure of what’s coming next. This haunted hayride is creatively designed and well laid out with just the right amount of time in between scares to ramp up the suspense and keep you guessing.
We love of course the barn scenes at the end with our old favorites Michael Myers, Jason, and Leatherface.
This haunted hayride deserves special recognition because of its creativity and attention to detail in the scenes. Sandyland Acres is definitely a must to visit for a fun and scary entertaining fall weekend evening. Get your Halloween on at Sandyland!
