Immersion
Donna - The immersion varied through all three haunts, but I felt was that an intensified level, especially on the haunted hayride. There’s a lot of outdoor space to cover and they did a good job of getting in your face and jumping on the wagon or suddenly appearing on the wagon coming from nowhere, and tormenting the riders with knives chainsaws or just verbal threats. All of the actors we encountered did their best and many stood out with over-the-top Performances to bring you to their creepy scenario.. They kept the boiler plate responses such as “get out! “To a minimum and interacted with the crowd while staying in character. |
Scare Factor
Donna - Brimstone Haunt consists of three haunted attractions set along a midwa. The haunted hayride, The Bog (renamed from the haunted forest last year), and Psychosis. These different haunts very in scare intensity from tame - more entertaining than scary for the haunted hayride to over the top assault on your senses with the indoor haunt of Psychosis. My scare score was the average of these three haunts. Actors Donna - As with most haunts, the actors are what makes the difference between an average experience with some actors, just dialing it in to an amped up, energetic intensity that creates an overwhelming sense of fear and anxiety and immersion. The cast and actors at Brimstone Haunt were super energetic, and, especially on the haunted hayride, brought an aggressive and believable interaction with the customers that was rare for most hayrides that we have been on. From the pig faced corn people that hopped on our wagon from nowhere and threatened to boil us in oil to the chainsaw wielding prisoners from the penitentiary who brought their chainsaws way too close to our feet and necks and constantly shouting threats of spilling our guts and eating our brains into our faces. There was even a spider girl dressed like a clown who did a backwards, spider crawl across the grate in the spinning tunnel that left us scratching our heads thinking how could she even do that all night long? The staff members in the emergency room ward who told us they don’t save people there they kill them, really stood out along with the physicality of some of the actors, such as the swamp creature who crawled and slithered around our feet and the actors who literally climbed over the top of the seats to get to us when we cut through the school bus in The Bog. We felt that, although limited in space in the indoor haunt Psychosis, the actors amped up their delivery and aggression towards us and, in combination with well placed special effects of the loud noises, bright lights, and then plunging you into darkness and silence, assaulting you on all levels of your senses really intensified the scares. Entertainment Donna - Brimstone Haunt is a great place to go with a family for a fun evening out to get some scares and get into the Halloween spirit. The haunts vary in scare level and intensity from the family oriented, haunted hayride all the way up to Psychosis which I don’t recommend for children because of the blood and gore and extreme Intensity of the haunt. Was this one of the scariest haunts we have ever been to probably not. Was it one of the most entertaining and fun haunts yes, most definitely! |
What Makes This Haunt Special
Donna - First of all, the actors make this haunt stand out. They are intense, athletic, interactive, and really get the most out of their character. The next thing would be the subtle special effects such as the ambient music which switches to different levels from intense, hard rock, blaring in your face to quiet whispers during parts of the haunted hayride. The lighting and misdirection of the actors in. Psychosis really stood out to me by directing your attention one way, and then creeping up behind you or jumping out in front of you. The costumes were spot on and very believable and the make up was some of the best I’ve seen, especially with the malformed creatures that came out of the cornfield.

What Can Be Worked On
Donna - There were some parts of the haunted hayride that I experienced a lot of downtime that would have been well suited to have additional actors jump out from the corn. The same goes for the outdoor walk-through the Bog, adding a few more characters in the dark areas to keep people on their toes and add a sense of forbidding and dread would be good as well.

In Summary
Donna - We had a great time and really enjoyed ourselves at Brimstone Haunt. If you are looking for a haunt where they throw you on a table, put you in chains, bury you alive or cover you with blood this is not the haunt for you. If you are looking for a fun place to bring your family for the evening And get some fun scares and screams and enjoy watching great actors in a friendly and accommodating well lit area that offers drinks, food and a rocking DJ, this is the place for you! They even offer for an extra charge zombie paintball shooting. Who doesn’t like to shoot zombies with paintballs?
